1. Imported Policy
Import a Columbus Life or Allianz illustration PDF. The app will locate the carrier cost ledger automatically.
Illustration Import Requirements
Import the complete carrier illustration PDF. The calculator reads the annual policy-charge data directly from the illustration and uses those actual carrier charges in the comparison.
Important: The illustration must include the carrier's detailed cost / policy charges report. If that report is not included in the PDF, the app cannot reliably import the annual policy costs and the illustration should not be used for the comparison.
Supported carriers: Columbus Life and Allianz. After import, confirm the Carrier, Product, Issue Age, and Rows Imported above before relying on the results.
2. Comparison Assumptions
How taxes are assessed: S&P price appreciation is not taxed each year. The app taxes the assumed Qualified Dividend Yield at the Capital Gains / Qualified Dividend Tax Rate, taxes the assumed Ordinary Income Yield at the Ordinary Income Tax Rate, and applies the State Tax Rate to both annual income amounts. Those taxes are included in Annual Equity Cost. Click the ? beside any tax field for the exact formula.

Equity Account — Cost Validation Detail
Year-by-year audit of the alternative account calculation. Values below use the exact calculation order applied by the comparison engine.
Tax method: Market appreciation remains unrealized and is not taxed annually. Qualified dividends are taxed at the capital-gains/dividend rate; ordinary investment income is taxed at the ordinary-income rate; state tax is applied to annual taxable investment income. Reinvested taxable income increases cost basis. Dividend assumption: the Qualified Dividend Yield is modeled separately from the S&P Price return and is assumed each year, including years when the price return is negative. Annual Equity Cost = Taxes + Management Fee + Term Cost.
